The 59th (Staffordshire) Division were a follow-up formation of the British Army that participated in the Allied landings of June 1944. The 59th were engaged in Operation Charnwood that ultimately delivered the Norman capital Caen into Allied hands and Operation Pomegranate that forced the German Army in the West back over the River Orne in fighting that concluded the Battle for Normandy.
